My best friend flew all the way from Alabama to Italy to visit me for spring break. We decided to go to Sicily and it didn’t disappoint. This was my first time in the South of Italy and I had heard people from Northern Italy say that the Southern people were different. I believe this to be true. Everyone here was so friendly and hospitable. We went to a cafe two days in a row and the owner gave us both a free candy bar after we finished. You could tell that the people of the South seemed more relaxed in their way of life.
We stayed in Palermo but also visited Cefalu which was so beautiful (the first and last picture.) Cefalu was one of my favorite parts of the trip and was only an hour or so by train away from Palermo. We walked around this old city eating gelato and lounging on the beach. Palermo was a little more touristy than I expected with cruise ships dropping off people but it wasn’t unbearable. We walked around the city gazing at the dreamy balconies and picturing what it would be like to live there.
The Southern Italians definitely know how to eat. I became obsessed with Arancini and Cannolis on this trip and at least had to have one of each everyday I was here. The beaches here were pretty, however, I’ve been to Sardinia and they didn’t quite compare to the ones that I’ve seen there. If you’re looking for architecture and history though, I would definitely choose Sicily over Sardinia.
This was such an enjoyable and relaxing trip.
